Notes
An orchestral arrangement of the traditional Gaelic melody Chì mi na mòrbheanna ("The Mist Covered Mountains"). It opens with celesta flourishes over hushed sul tasto strings. The tune enters on the cor anglais and passes to the flute and clarinet over pizzicato strings. The middle section darkens: drums, chromatic harmony and an accelerando gather into trills and driving repeated brass chords. A final Moderato gives the whole orchestra the melody in octaves at fortissimo, and the piece ends on a long held chord.
NB: The celesta part can be covered on a piano, or the piece can be played without this part.
