As a life-long musician I have enjoyed making music with a diverse range of ensembles across the UK. Now as a composer, arranger, and transcriber, I'm thrilled to be writing music accessible to all.
Training and background
After studying music and music technology at A-Level, I pursued a career in other fields, while continuing to play instruments and compose and arrange music in his spare time.
Later, I studied composition with Oscar Osicki, a renouned composer and teacher, developing my distinctive style that blends traditional and contemporary elements.
How I work
Scores are prepared to a consistent house style: conductor's scores on A3 (or Tabloid), parts on A4 (or Letter), with page turns laid out where players can actually take them. Every piece is supplied with a playback render, so a committee can hear a work before agreeing to it and a conductor can check a tempo before the first rehearsal. Revisions are discussed rather than assumed.
I work remotely with ensembles across the world; most of a transcription or arranging job happens over email, and that has never been the difficult part.

Clarinet from age seven, then bass clarinet, trombone, trumpet, and double bass, which means he has sat in the woodwind, brass, and string sections and knows what each of them is being asked to do. Parts are written to be played: page turns where a player can take them, and difficulty pitched within reach of a good amateur orchestra.
The arranging ranges from television themes and video game scores rescored for full orchestral forces to chamber groups of whatever size turns up. The original works are larger. A Staffordshire Symphony is five movements for full orchestra, drawn from the landscape and towns of the county; the Festival Overture is a concert opener in D major running under nine minutes. There is choral music too, including an unaccompanied Advent anthem. The writing is unashamedly lyrical, large in scale, and owes its harmonic language to the late Romantics.
