As a life-long musician I have enjoyed making music with a diverse range of ensembles across the UK. Now as a composer, arranger, and transcriber, I'm thrilled to be writing music accessible to all.
Training and background
After studying music and music technology at A-Level, I pursued a career in other fields, while continuing to play instruments and compose and arrange music in my spare time.
Later, I studied composition with the Composer Training Studio, developing my distinctive style that blends traditional and contemporary elements.
How I work
Scores are prepared to a consistent house style: conductor's scores on A3 (or Tabloid), parts on A4 (or Letter), with page turns laid out where players can actually take them. Every piece is supplied with a playback render, so a committee can hear a work before agreeing to it and a conductor can check a tempo before the first rehearsal. Revisions are discussed rather than assumed.
I work remotely with ensembles across the world; most of a transcription or arranging job happens over email, and that has never been the difficult part.

He started the clarinet at the age of seven and later took up the bass clarinet, trombone, trumpet, and double bass, so he has played in the woodwind, brass, and string sections of an orchestra and knows from the inside what each of them is asked to do. He plays with Lichfield Sinfonia and Stafford Sinfonia, and is in demand as a deputy player for orchestras, concert bands, and theatre bands across the UK.

His most recent works include A Staffordshire Symphony, five movements for full orchestra drawn from the county's landscape and towns; A Festival Overture, a concert opener in D major; and A Tender Shoot, an unaccompanied Advent anthem setting the English words of the German carol Es ist ein Ros entsprungen. He writes for symphony orchestra, concert band, and brass band, and his arrangements range from chamber groups to full orchestra, including music from television and video games.
His writing is lyrical and often large in scale, with harmony that owes much to the late Romantics. Alongside his own music, he prepares transcriptions and arrangements for ensembles, fitting the music to the players they actually have rather than the forces the original was written for.
