Terms and conditions
Last updated 11 September 2026.
Draft. These clauses are a starting structure, not legal advice. Have them checked before relying on them.
Quotes
Every job is quoted individually. A quote states the scope, the fee, what is delivered and the delivery date, and holds for 30 days.
Deposit and payment
TODO, e.g. 50% on acceptance, balance on delivery. Payment terms (14 days?). What happens on late payment.
Delivery
Work is delivered electronically: PDF score and parts, and where agreed MusicXML and a playback render. Printed materials are not supplied unless separately agreed.
Revisions
TODO, how many rounds are included, what counts as a revision as opposed to a change of brief, and what further work is charged at.
Ownership and copyright
TODO, this is the clause that matters most and needs deciding deliberately.
- Commissions: who owns the copyright in the new work, and what performance rights the commissioner receives.
- Transcription and arranging: the client is responsible for obtaining any permission required from the rights holder of the underlying work. I retain no claim over music I did not write, and the engraving is supplied for the client's use.
- Credit: how you wish to be credited in programmes and recordings.
Cancellation
TODO, what is payable if a job is cancelled part-way, and on what notice.
Performing materials
Perusal scores are supplied for assessment only and may not be used in performance. Performance materials are supplied on hire or purchase; terms are given on request.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
